IHG Honeymoon Destinations

Every girl dreams of the perfect wedding but what about the perfect honeymoon?

The hours spent planning, weekends dragging your fiancée to wedding expos, appointments, paperwork, venue inspections, phone calls!  If anyone deserves a holiday it’s certainly a Bride and Groom.  You deserve 7 days of relaxation. Romantic strolls on the beach.  Endless hours lazing by a resort pool while a well tanned local serves numerous fruity cocktails. Indulgent seafood buffet dinners. Intimate dinners personally waited by the beach. Sunset cruises, massages, snorkelling. Nothing more than pure bliss!

InterContinental Hotels Group have positioned themselves in some of the most amazing honeymoon locations not only in Australia but Thailand, Bali, Maldives, Fiji and Vietnam.

Here are 4 of my favourites…

InterContinental Sanctuary Cove

Located on the northern end of the Gold Coast, this upscale resort based on classic Queenslander architecture offers honeymooners a chance to experience elegant unforgettable luxury with the convenience of not having to travel too far. It is perfect for 5 days of escapism after months of busy wedding planning.

The highlight of the property is their one acre beach lagoon pool. Laying on the sand under an umbrella you can imagine you are anywhere! For those a little more adventurous, you are only 10 minutes’ drive from some of Australia’s favourite theme parks.  The beautiful Gold Coast Hinterland is also nearby and offers bush walks with water holes, wine tours and quirky tourist experiences.

You can enjoy a dining experience like no other in their signature restaurant The Fireplace. The dining room feels like a private manor as you watch the Chefs prepare your meal in the wood fired oven and open kitchen.  The cuisine is contemporary and I highly recommend choosing a main from the wood fire grill.

InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort provides everything you need for the ultimate convenient luxury getaway.

Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley

Who doesn’t love a weekend away in a wine region and Hunter Valley is one of the best.  Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley is conveniently located in the heart of the Hunter region, NSW’s premier romantic destination.  Located on a scenic golf course and with breathtaking vineyard views it is the perfect honeymoon for foodies.  We hired a car and within a day we were able to visit a chocolate shop, Binnorie dairy; with the most amazing cheeses, ask to try the Labna!  Matilda Bay brewery and of course cellar doors!

For a unique dining experience in the Hunter I highly recommend EXP at Oakvale Winery . The innovative 5 or 8 course degustation menu is sure to impress and is a must to add to your honeymoon itinerary in the valley.

Lazy afternoons back at the hotel can be spent by the pool, in the Ubika Day Spa,  a round of golf or enjoying the hotels own brewery in Lovedale Bar.  If you don’t feel like going out, the hotels irresistible Villa Dining menu brings the Hunter Valley’s finest local cuisine straight to your resort villa. The hotel really is an all inclusive resort even with its own corner store!

Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley is perfectly positioned for a week of indulgence.

InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa

The best snorkelling experience I had In Fiji was at this resort, straight out from the shore of the hotel cocktail bar Kama. Located on the Coral coast there is an amazing underwater world to explore.  We also got a little more adventurous and joined an easy 10 metre dive organised at the hotel to see lion fish. Lessons were conducted in the pool before we set out.

If you happen to loose hubby to the 18 hole Golf course, then I highly recommend indulging with Spa InterContinental’s signature Warm Shell Massage or simply relaxing in your own private Cleopatra style bath on your balcony.

The hotels fine dining restaurant, Navo, offers a tempting array of fresh local seafood and produce and an opportunity to try traditional Fijian cuisine including Kokoda (raw fish in coconut milk). You can also try a complimentary cooking class and experience a true Fijian culinary experience.

It’s the little touches that make InterContinental Fiji so enjoyable.  A  warm smile and greeting of Bula (hello) from the friendly staff,  the subtle scent of coconut oil, the nightly traditional fire ceremony and many more. We spent hours just relaxing in the couple day beds and enjoying the breeze overlooking the infinity pool.  Each sunset was spectacular.

InterContintenal Fiji Golf Resort & Spa really does give meaning to nirvana and being on “Island time”.

InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort

I’ll never forget arriving at this amazing resort. Driving far out onto the Danang peninsula, being greeted with a red rose and walking out to a mezzanine overlooking the resort and beautiful Monkey Beach.  The whole resort was so beautiful, I almost cried! Our room was indulgent with dark timbers and Vietnamese inspired décor.  The private balcony gave way to views over the East Sea and the real surprise was the frameless rain shower that trickled away through the floor boards.

InterContinental Danang is pure indulgence. The hotel features its own cable car to two incredible restaurants; Le Maison and Citron. Le Maison is the number one gastronomic destination in Vietnam run by 3 Michelin star chef Pierre Gagnaire. Le Maison’s offering of haute French dining is more than a meal,  it is an experience! Citron, sits on the hillside 100 metres above sea level, offering spectacular views of the entire bay. All food is prepared and served from two interactive show kitchens. The menu is a mix of fresh Vietnamese and Mediterranean cuisine.

At the resort you can be as active or as relaxed as you want to be. The resort offers daily activities including Tai Chi, yoga, kayaking and forest trekking.  You can take the complimentary shuttle into Danang for shopping or, like me, spend as much time as possible soaking up the pure indulgence of the resort. There is 700 metres of private beach to wander, an adult’s only infinity pool and cabanas and day beds dotted all along the shore line.

To truly indulge your senses, a visit to the hotel spa is a must.  To add to the InterContinental Danang’s long list of awards, the day spa was recently named the world’s Best New Hotel Spa. Using the finest botanical ingredients and skillfully trained therapists you will be whisked away into total relaxation.

InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort is truly a first class experience.
